Who I am and what I stand for...

For anyone that doesn't know, my stage name is Dre' from Jerz and I am a recording artist, songwriter as well as a music producer. I represent the men out in the world who are disenfranchised and who many have written off as damaged goods. One of my goals as an recording artist is to establish a network or a brotherhood of like-minded individuals who look to add value to their lives. I will make this my mission to complete until I am no longer able to do so.

State of Hip Hop Culture: The End of Quarter Follow-Up

Following the 50th year of Hip Hop, which was in 2023, it would appear as if the entire culture has taking a nose dive. No longer are hip hop, or most would say, rap artists celebrating mainstream success or platinum plaques with each album or CD release. Digital streaming platforms have become mainstays for many avid music listeners. Streams have all but washed away any chance of more than one urban music recording artist reach titular success with charting-topping sales. Low DSP music, royalty payouts…

Women of Rap: You now have the Mic!

Many of you will not like this argument I'm about to present to you. On the regular, Hip hop and Rap get plenty of complaints from women in regard to violence and misogyny.

In terms of mainstream rap, female recording artists now have the floor and the opportunity that they once never had before. Yet all I hear from women of mainstream rap today is sexually explicit lyrics and a truck load of man-hating. Don't get me wrong, some of that stuff sounds cool at first but then it begins to sound like noise.

Gone…

The Creative Process: Defeating Writer's Block!

A lot of times, I draw inspiration from a current event, the human condition, or my own personal experiences when writing a song. There are moments though where my mind goes blank and I am not able to create a well-crafted world for my rhymes to fit in. Therefore, I must take intermittent breaks meaning that I must withdraw from audio recording for short stints. This helps me diffuse all of the hidden tensions that may cause me to lose touch with my creativity. It's quite difficult in certain instances but…

POLITICAL VIEWS & WARTIME ETIQUETTE...!!!

Hey! What's up?

I'm not going to talk a lot of politics on here but I do need to express my thoughts. First and foremost, I am NOT rocking with the current regime in place in the U.S.A. and I most certainly don't agree with their political agenda. Society as a whole in America seems to have a fragile backbone and I can sense it in the air. I can almost hear the barbarians at the gate waiting for anarchy to take place. Our current leadership has failed to serve the American people and we as a collective need…

State of Hip Hop Culture: First Quarter Insight

Why do I love Rap and Hip Hop Culture so much??? This is a question I ask myself almost everyday. The truth of the matter is that when I first paid attention to music period, I was really into 80's pop. On weekday afternoons and weekends, you could find my young self in front of the large tube T.V. watching MTV (Music Television). I would become mesmerized by MTV's Moon Man mascot and right after he appeared then came Michael Jackson, Duran Duran or Cyndi Lauper, the latter I had silent crush on.

It wasn't…

Underground Rap & Hip Hop Culture

With what appears to be some sort of music industry reset, it would seem that the spotlight is now back on the underground rap scene and adjoining hip hop culture. Mainstream rap looks to have fallen out of grace with the masses. Now is the time for underground rap artists to capitalize on this moment. It's your time!

Open Letter to the Hip Hop World

To whom it may concern:

I’m not sure if anyone else has done this before on social media but I would like to ask everyone to take a quick pause when they can. Please look at the state of the world today and really assess what is happening. There is definitely a dynamic shift in society on a physical level, conscious level and beyond. Right now, I’m just trying to paint a backdrop for what I’m about to discuss.

Hip Hop (Rap) plays a small but integral part in the way society flows through multiple facets. It…

State of Hip Hop Culture: An End of the Year Reflection

Hip Hop & Rapping have always been raw and edgy. Nowadays, the core message, purpose and meaning of the culture has completely changed. Hip Hop & Rap is currently a tool used to destroy the very people who initially invented it.

Record company executives promote Black versus Black violence, the use of drugs, and overly sexualizing Black women. When I speak of sexualization of women, I am referring to the excess of not the mere fact of. The masses at large seem to have beef with the art form when they should…

Modern World: Good vs. Evil

Just to be clear, I don't subscribe to evil even though the world seems to be heading in that direction! I may talk about or discuss some edgy stuff but that is as far as it goes. Everyday, I am hoping that the World will see the light and common sense makes a comeback.

Hip Hop/Rap Beat Curator...

I can really listen to beats all day…like…I truly enjoy doing that! I would look at the clock and see 1 ½ to 2 hours pass by just from listening to type beats and instrumentals. It's one of those small things that make me happy. Even more so, I get a kick out of testing my abilities by laying lyrics over these beats. Some successes and some fails. Either way, it feels great! I love Hip Hop and the art of rhyming.

Wow...What's Going on, America?!

Geesh America…Will someone please grab the wheel!?!? I've tried reaching out to my Congressperson but it didn't garner any results. Not sure what to do now!!! #AConcernedCitizen #ConsciousRecordingArtist #MakeAmericaABetterPlace

My Music Origin...

I've written raps on-and-off since age 12 and attended open mics in my early adulthood. It was the untimely passing of the recording artist, activist, entrepreneur - Nipsey Hussle - that inspired me to pursue rhyming as more than a whim. I've been recording music for the passed five years now on a more continuous basis. My intended goals are to create a sizeable catalog of audio art (music recordings) and build my label, Creative Resource Entertainment, into a solid brand within the world of music. I love…

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT...

There are (2) things I would have to work on if I were to perform any of my tracks live…remembering my verses…and maintaining a strong stage presence!

If it wasn't for my passion...I would just stop!

I love Hip Hop as an art form and the culture. I participate as a recording artist because of that reason. There are many days when I want to give up but my passion keeps me going. I want the World to know that I am not a rapper but instead a “Painter with Words.”
