Open Letter to the Hip Hop World

To whom it may concern:

I’m not sure if anyone else has done this before on social media but I would like to ask everyone to take a quick pause when they can. Please look at the state of the world today and really assess what is happening. There is definitely a dynamic shift in society on a physical level, conscious level and beyond. Right now, I’m just trying to paint a backdrop for what I’m about to discuss.

Hip Hop (Rap) plays a small but integral part in the way society flows through multiple facets. It employs plenty of individuals from top to bottom; from executives to marketers to club promoters. Some lucky and/or talented individuals can go from “rags to riches” with a music career. Everyday citizens listen to music when they’re either home or out in the world. A large majority of people listen to hip hop (rap) when and where they can. The point I am driving home is that hip hop (rap) is an important staple in society.

Okay, now to my message. I do understand creativity and good music still exists today. In my opinion some individuals or groups (not all) are headed in the wrong direction. There is a lot of “DEATH FOR CASH” music being made by a large segment of the Hip Hop (Rap) community. What I mean by “DEATH FOR CASH” is that rap recording artists are promoting violence on a hyper level in order to increase their income and appease to their labels. Even Though rappers are NOT meant to be role models they influence the outcomes in certain situations whether directly or indirectly. Hip Hop (Rap) also has an impact on the minds of the youth and those who have trouble discerning right from wrong.

In no shape or form am I disrespecting or discrediting anyone's talent. I am merely asking that recording artists (rappers) exercise a little bit more creativity and balance when developing their lyrics. To answer anyone’s question, no I am not a Christian recording artist, music producer or songwriter. With the loss of so many talented artists, I just believed there was a need to post this. Thanks.
